K-9 Mail is a free e-mail program for the Android mobile operating system . The software is available under the Apache license and is available as an app via the Google Play Store, F-Droid and the official website .

Functions

K-9 Mail supports POP3 and IMAP retrieval of e-mails from multiple e-mail accounts. When using IMAP, you can set for each e-mail folder whether push mail should be used. In addition, Microsoft Exchange 2003/2007 and WebDAV support.

The encryption of e-mails according to the OpenPGP standard is possible if software such as OpenKeychain is installed. The appearance of the user interface can be customized using themes ; "light" and "dark" are available as standard. The layout of the user interface automatically adapts to the screen size.

K-9 Mail was downloaded between five and ten million times from the Play Store and received almost 90,000 reviews (as of March 2019). The program was named the best alternative to the pre-installed e-mail program in the Computer Week in 2013.

Offshoot

The commercial e-mail program K-10 Mail is based on K-9 Mail, but has not been updated since March 2014.

Trivia

The program's name and logo were taken from the robot of the same name from the British science fiction series Doctor Who .
