KP Kottarakkara

KP Kottarakkara (actually Kottarakkara Kaippallil Kuttan Pillai ; Malayalam : കെ.പി. കൊട്ടാരക്കര ; * 1924 or 1922 in Kottarakkara , Kerala ; † November 19, 2006 in Chennai , Tamil Nadu ) was an Indian actor, screenwriter and film producer. He was one of the most successful producers of Malayalam film in the 1970s and was also active in Kannada and Tamil film .

Since the early 1950s, he has appeared as an actor in films: Atmasakhi (1950), Ponkathir (1953), Avakashi (1954). After the dialogues he wrote for Ponkathir , he wrote scripts for more than 25 other films in a short time before he also took on the role of producer. His best-known film as a writer was A. Bhimsinghs Pasamalar (1961) with Sivaji Ganesan , a story about an orphan and siblings. This film was remade in eight other Indian languages, the Hindi version was Rakhi (1962).

His first own production was the 1963 Tamil film Parisu by D. Yoganand with MG Ramachandran in the lead role. He produced nearly 30 Malayalam films with busy actor Prem Nazir . His last work was Mazhathullikkilukkam (2002).

He received a Filmfare Award for his work on A. Bhimsinghs Rakhi (1962) .

KP Kottarakkara was President of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in 1980 and was a member of the Film Federation of India. His two sons Ravi Kottarakkara and KP Ganesh are also film producers.
