The kk state-authorized machine factory and carriage construction company Johann Spiering , also machine and wagon construction factory Johann Spiering or Spiering Wagen- und Straßenbahn-Bauunternehmung was an Austrian machine and vehicle construction company in Vienna . The company headquarters was on Taborstrasse in Vienna's 2nd district, Leopoldstadt . In the second half of the 19th century, the state-awarded company produced horse-drawn tram cars for various Austro-Hungarian tram operators , including the first deliveries for the Vienna tram that opened in 1865 , the Buda tram that opened in 1868 and the Temesvár tram that opened in 1869 . The cabins of the Budapest funicular railway Budavári Sikló , which opened in 1870, also come from Spiering.

history

The Spiering factory was established around 1820 and was operated by David Specker in 1849. The building from which the tram cars came was located at Taborstrasse 76 and consisted of a single-storey residential building with two courtyard wings and a two-story workshop building. In 1881 the left wing of the farm was converted into a riding school with stables. However, after about another ten years, the machine factory Ph. Mayfarth & Co. was rebuilt. The workshop wing was restored in 1884 by H. Claus and M. Hinträger after fire damage for a metal saw factory. However, around 1900 the landowner at the time had all the buildings demolished and apartment houses built. However, Spiering still erected several buildings in Leopoldstadt, the most important of which was in Oberen Augartenstrasse 56 and remains of which are still preserved today.
