KDE aided design , or KAD for short , is a CAD program for two-dimensional drawings . It is based on the community edition of QCad and has a customized interface for KDE . The current version 0.8.2 is available for Linux , Unix and BSD . It uses the KDE libraries in version 3. A port to KDE4 is currently being worked on.

Range of functions

KAD offers over 40 construction and more than 20 modification tools for points , lines , arcs , circles , ellipses , splines , polylines, texts, dimensions and hatching . The program can also handle layers and blocks (groupings). True-to-scale printing , object snap, symbol library and measuring tools are also part of the range of functions.

KAD uses DXF as the file format . The unit of measurement to be used can be switched between the metric and the imperial system of units.
