The steam locomotives SAMSON , HERCULES and VULCAN were the first freight locomotives of the Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB). They were ordered from the Stephenson Locomotive Works .

Stephenson passed the order from SAMSON and HERCULES to Tayleur & Co. in Warrington and only delivered the VULCAN himself . That is why the machines differ in their essential data. The locomotives were delivered in 1837 and had the axle formula  B1. The cylinders were arranged under the smoke chamber and drove the cranked second axle. The filling tray also later used by the KFNB was located on the middle section of the boiler.

SAMSON and HERCULES were shut down in 1848, the VULCAN in 1851; all three were canceled in 1852.
