The State Security Committee of Belarus (Russian: К омитет г осударственной б езопасности Республики Беларусь, Komitet gosudarstwennoi besopasnosti Respubliki Belarus ( KGB ) , Belarusian: К амітэт urn зяржаўнай б яспекі Рэспублікі Беларусь, Kamitet dsjarschaunaj bjaspeki Respubliki Belarus ( KDB )) is the state secret service and the secret police of Belarus . It emerged in 1991 from the KGB BSSR, the Belarusian sub-organization of the KGB of the Soviet Union, and, in contrast to the FSB, which was developed in Russia, has retained the name KGB from the Soviet era. Valery Wakultschik has been chairman of the KGB since October 2011.
