KV Victoria / 88 Hamburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The War Association Victoria-Hamburg 88 or KV Victoria / 88 Hamburg for short was a merger of the two Hamburg football clubs SC Victoria Hamburg and Hamburger SV 1888 .

The war association was founded on July 27, 1918 during the First World War and existed until June 1, 1919. The KV qualified for the final round of the North German soccer championship 1918/19. After victories over Schwerin FC 1903 (10: 0), at Borussia Harburg (4: 1) and after extra time in the semifinals with 7: 1 over Kieler SV Holstein , the team met Bremer SC 1891 in the final in Bremen . KV Victoria / 88 won the final 2-0 and was thus the North German champion. The day of the North German final on June 1, 1919, had been waited for in order to separate the war association.

The championship team mainly consisted of Victoria players, including Henry Müller , Ernst Eikhof , Walter Krause , Hermann Garrn and Heiner Mechling . The HSV, henceforth without the addition "88" and newly merged, was represented by Rudi Agte and Otto Harder . The final in Bremen won: Pohl - Müller, Agte - Wendt, Eikhof, Krause - O.Zilgas, Garrn, Harder, Mechling, Schneider.

Since the final round of the German championship was canceled in 1918/19 , this remained the highest possible success that the KV could achieve in its history. After the separation, Victoria was initially more successful by winning the championship in the Hamburg / Altona district in front of HSV in 1919/20.
