KWin is the window manager and also Wayland Compositor of the KDE desktop environment . It has been part of the desktop environment since K Desktop Environment 2.0 and has replaced the older KWM . KWin will be further developed in connection with the KDE software compilation .
particularities
A special feature compared to other window managers is the fact that the screen background is not used as a so-called root window, but is overlaid by the KDE desktop, which makes drag-and-drop operations possible. KWin also supports newer standards such as ICCCM 2.0 and the X Session Manager ( XSM for short ). Advanced focus settings and the handling of crashed programs are now also mastered.
KWin can be graphically adapted with different styles , styles from IceWM are also supported.
