The concentration camp memorial near Schupf

The concentration camp memorial near Schupf is a memorial that recalls events that occurred during the rule of the Nazi regime. It is located a little north of the Middle Franconian town of Schupf and points to the location of a corpse cremation site where the cremation of victims of the Hersbruck satellite camp took place in the last months of the Second World War .

Location and history of the memorial

The memorial is located near the village of Schupf ( Happurg ) on the high plateau of the Franconian Alb and is a little east of the district road LAU 25 in a small forest clearing.

The memorial consists of an approximately 25 x 20 meter walled area, in the center of which is the actual memorial with inscriptions. This consists of a large, stone urn that contains the remaining ashes of the probably more than 1,000 prisoners' corpses that were burned at this location. Just like the concentration camp memorial near Hubmersberg , this memorial also goes back to a design by Ernst Rücker , which was realized when the building was erected in 1950 by the district of Hersbruck .

Every year around November 9th, a small memorial ceremony takes place at the site of the memorial to commemorate the victims of the National Socialist tyranny.
