The Kerestinec concentration camp ( Serbo - Croatian Koncentracioni logor Kerestinec / Концентрациони логор Керестинец) was a concentration camp in the then fascist Independent State of Croatia (NDH). The camp was established in a castle west of Zagreb on April 19, 1941, when prisoners were deported to the camp on the same day . The internees were mainly Serbs , Jews and political prisoners. The police administration of the city of Zagreb was responsible for the camp , and Mladen Horvatin was appointed as the concentration camp commandant . The prisoners were divided according to nationality or political orientation and their valuables and money were confiscated. The camp administration only registered those prisoners who had money taken from them. It is therefore not known how many people were actually interned in the camp.
