The K & L GmbH & Co. Handels-KG is a German medium-sized textile and fashion house based in Weilheim in Upper Bavaria . The company emerged from the "K&L Ruppert Stiftung & Co. Handels-KG", which in turn emerged from a clothing factory founded in 1953 and a textile shop opened in 1962.

history

The founding family Ruppert comes from Heimbuchenthal . Hans Ruppert, the oldest of four brothers, founded a clothing factory in Landshut in 1953 . The third oldest of the brothers, Karl, opened a small textile shop in Weilheim on September 29, 1962, with a 50 m² sales area for men's clothing. The items went straight to the store from the factory without any intermediaries. The idea behind this was to offer the latest fashion at affordable prices.

The company developed rapidly during the economic miracle : in the first ten years ten branches were opened, for example in Ingolstadt, Regensburg, Rosenheim, Kempten and Landshut. During this time, the two younger Ruppert brothers, Ludwig and Josef, also joined the company. The company has expanded since the 1970s and opened new branches in Munich, Nuremberg and Augsburg. Since the 1990s, the company has expanded its branch network in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Thuringia, Saxony, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. From 2007, Susanne Ruppert led the family business as the second generation CEO. The offer consists of women's, men's and children's collections.

On September 1, 2017, the company took over the previous CFO Jens Bächle as managing partner. Since then the company has operated under the name K&L GmbH & Co. Handels-KG. K&L has over 55 branches in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Thuringia, Saxony, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate and operates an online business.

On October 12, 2018, the company filed for insolvency at the Weilheim district court and is to be restructured in protective shield proceedings . In January 2019 it was announced that in addition to restructuring, 14 branches will also be closed. The Augsburg-based Schmid Group took over the company in September 2019.
