KaPe Schmidt

KaPe Schmidt (born August 18, 1966 in Cologne ; also KP Schmidt , real name Klaus Peter Schmidt ) is a German photographer and cameraman .

Life

Schmidt attended the School of Design in Cologne from 1983 to 1985 and completed classical photography training from 1987 to 1990. He began his photographic career in 1991 as a people and advertising photographer and since the beginning of 2000 has specialized in the field of "digital compositing photography". Schmidt took part in various solo and group exhibitions with his artistic photography.

From 2001 Schmidt is represented by the Galerie Skala in Cologne. In addition to photography, Schmidt works as a freelance cameraman. Since the mid-90s he has been the camera operator for numerous films by the Cologne group , including a. for the directors Marcel Belledin, Götz Großhans, Markus Mischkowski and Kai Maria Steinkühler . The feature film Westend , which he photographed , had its world premiere on October 24, 2001 at the 35th Hof International Film Festival and its international premiere on January 27, 2002 at the 31st International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). It was released in German cinemas in October 2003 and was released on DVD in March 2006 in the Edition Filmmuseum .

In 2004 Schmidt wrote the textbook Basics of Film Material Exposure, which was published by Mediabook-Verlag. In the same year he received a nomination for the German Camera Prize for the short film V - Five (director: Don Schubert ) and was appointed to the German Society for Photography (DGPh). Schmidt has been working as a lecturer in the fields of camera work, film material exposure and the aesthetics of visual language for various advanced training institutions since 2000. In 2014 he directed the camera for the feature film Weisse Ritter , which premiered on October 22, 2015 at the 49th Hof Film Festival, was released on October 13, 2016 (distributor: OLYMP Film / cineleusis) and on October 22, 2018 DVD appeared (provider: strzeleckiBooks).

Schmidt lives and works in his hometown of Cologne.
