Life

After graduating from high school, Markus Mischkowski studied language and literature in Berlin . Since 1990 he has been an author, director and producer (Westendfilme) of numerous short and feature films. In 2000/2001 he studied screenwriting / dramaturgy at the International Film School in Cologne . Together with the actor and director Kai Maria Steinkühler , he has been working on the Cologne Westend Cycle, a series of short and long black and white film comedies about the fictional film characters Mike (Markus Mischkowski) and, who live in the Cologne suburb of Westend, since the mid-1990s Alfred (Kai Maria Steinkühler). In his film debut Westend (2001) he was responsible as a screenwriter, director and actor.

Westend had its world premiere on October 24, 2001 at the 35th Hof International Film Festival and its international festival premiere on January 27, 2002 at the 31st International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). The film was released in October 2003 under the title Westend - Money does not matter in German cinemas. A DVD edition was published in February 2006 by Edition Filmmuseum .

Together with Kai Maria Steinkühler, Markus Mischkowski developed his own concept of the documentary film in the films Waiting Loops (2010) and Wolkenheime (2012), in which the actors mix their own improvised storytelling and experience with role specifications in a documentary-fictional manner in a staged interview situation.

In 2014/2015 he produced and directed the feature film White Knights (world premiere on October 22, 2015 at the 49th Hof International Film Festival). He plays the film character Mike alongside Kai Maria Steinkühler and Steffi Gosejohann. White Knights came to German cinemas on October 13, 2016 (distributor: OLYMP Film / cineleusis) and was released on DVD on October 22, 2018 (provider: strzeleckiBooks).

Markus Mischkowski is a member of the Kölner Filmclub 813 and the Kölner Gruppe , a loose association of Cologne filmmakers.
