Kai Maria Steinkühler

Kai Maria Steinkühler (born October 23, 1967 in Cologne ) is a German filmmaker, screenwriter, author and actor.

Life

Kai Maria Steinkühler studied Egyptology and African Studies, English and German Studies in Cologne. After a few years of freelance theater work, including at “CCQ” (director: Karin Beier ), he turned to writing and filmmaking. Together with the author and filmmaker Markus Mischkowski , he has been working on the Cologne Westend cycle since 1996 and directed the feature films Westend (2001) and White Knight (2015) with him .

Westend had its world premiere on October 24, 2001 at the 35th Hof International Film Festival and its international festival premiere on January 27, 2002 at the 31st International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). The film was released in October 2003 under the title Westend - Money does not matter in German cinemas. The DVD edition was published in February 2006 by Edition Filmmuseum .

Kai Maria Steinkühler developed together with Markus Mischkowski in the films Waiting Loops (2010) and Wolkenheime (2012) his own concept of the documentary film, in which the actors mix improvised storytelling and experience with role specifications in a documentary-fictional manner in a staged interview situation.

In 2014/2015 he was co-author and co-director of the feature film White Knights (world premiere on October 22, 2015 at the 49th Hof International Film Festival). He plays the film character Alfred alongside Markus Mischkowski and Steffi Gosejohann.

In addition to his work as a screenwriter and director, Kai Maria Steinkühler works as an actor and regularly goes on scenic reading tours with various authors.

Kai Maria Steinkühler is a member of the 813 Film Club and the "Kölner Gruppe", writes poetry and fiction: "Ballnacht im Breisgau" is the first part of his current cycle of animal poems. He is currently working on his novel "Sisu or Sörgel's Dream".
