Cheick Modibo Diarra took office on April 21, 2007 as the acting Prime Minister of Mali .

After the outbreak of unrest and the secession of the northern part of Mali, Diarra was appointed Prime Minister of a Malian interim government on April 17, 2012 by the military government in power since the coup in March 2012 . The aim of the government of national unity that he has formed is to restore order in all parts of the country and then to hold free elections.

On April 24, 2012, he formed his cabinet, which includes, in addition to the Deputy Prime Minister Sow, twenty ministers and three associate ministers.

After being arrested by the military on December 10, 2012, Modibo Diarra announced in a statement on state television on the morning of December 11 that he would resign and his entire cabinet.
