The Kadetrinne is a nature reserve in the German exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea .

The nature reserve is around 100 km². It is congruent with the FFH area of the same name that was designated in 2007 . The FFH area “Darßer Schwelle” follows to the southeast. The area has been under nature protection since September 28, 2017.

The nature reserve is located in the Baltic Sea northeast of Rostock . It comprises an area that is delimited to the northwest by the seaward delimitation of the German exclusive economic zone and to the southeast by the seaward boundary of the German territorial sea . It protects an area of the Kadetrinne , which breaks through the Darßer Schwelle and cuts up to 32 meters deep into the seabed formed by a marl ridge . It thus forms an important channel system for the exchange of water between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The flanks of the channels are formed by large stone reef complexes . Large algae and mussels settle here .

The area is the habitat and migration route of the porpoise . Also throated diver , red-throated divers and Little Gull are native, as migratory birds, for coming. B. eider , long-tailed and common scoter . The nature reserve serves as a regeneration area for a species-rich, benthic fauna with a high number of Red List species. As such, the area has a connecting and stepping stone function for the ecosystems of the western and central Baltic Sea.

Recreational fishing is restricted or prohibited in parts of the nature reserve. Two protection zones have been set up for this purpose: Recreational fishing is prohibited all year round in Zone 1 in the southwest of the protected area, and in Zone 2 in the northeast from the beginning of February to the end of May.
