Kaffenburg

The Kaffenburg , also called Kefernburg , is today a settlement with a deserted castle east-southeast of the village of Barchfeld , a district of the city of Kranichfeld in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia .

Geographical location

1.4 kilometers east-southeast of Barchfeld on a once cleared, now agricultural, flat high plateau is the desert site of a hilltop castle , the Kaffenburg.

history

A Vogt of the Lords of Kranichfeld lived in this castle in 1342 as a manor . Kranichfeld once had an interesting castle history. Five fortified structures are proven. The Kaffenburg may have belonged to this defensive complex as an outpost or as a waypoint. At that time the valleys were very humid and hardly navigable and not very suitable for agricultural use. Later a chamber property was set up up there. When this was dissolved, the fields and farm buildings were probably privatized, because names of farmers are mentioned. Also Kahl is for the location of coffee castle to the documentary first mention of 7 November 1339 from the UB Erfurt founder III 31st That means that the area up there was still inhabited.

But in 1666 only rubble remained of the castle. They disappeared in 1890, reports Paul Lehfeldt .

Location

The courtyard was the location for the 2009 mystery thriller Behind Kaifeck .
