Kai-Eric Fitzner (born May 9, 1970 in Bremen ) is a German writer and former software entrepreneur.

Life

Fitzner is married and has three children. He lives with his family in Oldenburg . Until 2014 he was employed by a software company; then he went into business for himself. On May 8, 2015, Fitzner was hospitalized with an arrhythmia. Four days later, he suffered a severe stroke and had to be put into an artificial coma. After about a month he was awakened from the artificial coma and started rehabilitation . Kai-Eric Fitzner still suffers from aphasia to this day .

Fitzner caused a sensation in 2015 with his novel Willkommen im Meer, set in Oldenburg and written from October 2005 to January 2006. In 2009 the novel was self- published; Fitzner only published a revised version in February 2015. The cover of the novel was designed by Fitzner's wife Raja Caetano.

After the novel had not found much circulation until then, it rose to number 1 on the bestseller list of the German Amazon version after an appeal that Fitzner's wife posted on Facebook on May 19, 2015 . In the appeal, the financial distress after Fitzner's stroke was pointed out a few days earlier and asked for support by buying the book. The Bochum blogger Johannes Korten spread the call under the hashtag #einBuchfuerKai and also collected over 13,000 euros in donations by the end of June 2015. The previously little-known work turned into a surprise success. The Droemer Knaur publishing group launched the novel as an e-book in July 2015 and as a printed paperback edition in August 2015 . Johannes Korten was awarded the Virus Thrower Prize 2015 in the “Personality of the Year” category for his commitment .

Fitzner's second book, the novel Krumme Dinger , was published in August 2017.
