Kai-Oliver Detken (born February 21, 1968 in Hamburg ) is a German textbook author, IT management consultant, university lecturer and entrepreneur.

biography

Kai-Oliver Detken studied communications / electrical engineering at the University of Bremen from 1989 to 1993 , then from 1993 to 1996 information technology at the University of Bremen . He received his doctorate in computer science, also from the University of Bremen in 2002.

Between 1997 and 2007 Detken wrote specialist books on the subjects of ATM, Internet protocols, security, Voice-over-IP (VoIP), LAN technologies and Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Since 2007 he has been involved in loose-leaf publications from various publishers or book contributions to conferences (e.g. BDACH Security). In addition, he works as a freelance author for various publishers (including NET Verlagsservice, Wirtschaftsverlag), permanent employee of the trade journal "NET - Zeitschrift für Kommunikationmanagement", gives lectures at various specialist conferences and training courses for national training providers (eg SIGS-DATACOM).

In 2001 Detken founded the company DECOIT GmbH in Bremen, which deals with consulting, implementation and development of IT systems. The company has its particular strengths in the area of open source and has been involved in various research projects since its foundation in addition to day-to-day business. Since 2007, the focus has been on security solutions, which mainly revolve around the trusted computing approach . Detken actively accompanied many of these research projects as a project manager.

Detken has also been a lecturer at the University of Bremen since 2001 . First in the media informatics department and then in the technical informatics department, where he was responsible for computer networks and telecommunications. Between 2001 and 2003, he also worked at the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences in the media informatics department for video technology, video conferencing and telelearning. Due to his many years of teaching at the University of Bremen, he was made an honorary professor there in 2008 . In 2016, he temporarily took over computer architecture in the International Women's Computer Science course (IFI) and gave his previous computer networks lecture. Since 2017 he has been concentrating exclusively on the international media informatics course (ISM) at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences , where he teaches the elective corporate management.

In addition to his professional activity, Kai-Oliver Detken has been the second chairman of the Lilienthal Astronomical Association (AVL) since 2012 . Since 2007 he has been a member of this association, which has set itself the goal of experiencing the most original form of nature (the universe) through observation, photography, events and lectures together. The aim is also to remember Lilienthal's great astronomical history, which began at the beginning of the 19th century by the Oberamtmann Johann Hieronymus Schroeter . Detken himself is a committed hobby astronomer who is active in various specialist groups of the AVL and the Vereinigung der Sternfreunde (VdS) in the field of astrophotography. Since 2009 he has therefore also written various astronomical publications for various association and specialist journals and has given specialist lectures.
