Kai Buchmann (born October 31, 1980 ) is a German basketball coach .

career

Buchmann came to basketball as a teenager through swimming and ice hockey: “I started when I was 13 or 14, but didn't stay active for long. During my voluntary social year, I gained experience as a coach in the club and quickly found pleasure in it, ”he told the Hohenloher Tagblatt in August 2015 .

He was assistant coach at RSV Eintracht 1949 Teltow-Kleinmachnow-Stahnsdorf for the 2004/05 season and was involved in the fact that the team rose from the first regional league in 2007 to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB  . In addition, he held the office of youth coordinator and full-time youth trainer at the club. He also acted as a regional trainer for the Brandenburg Basketball Association. At the end of October 2012 he became head coach of the RSV men's team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB and remained in office until the end of the 2012/13 season, which ended with the ProB class remaining.

In the summer of 2013, Buchmann took up the position of co-trainer at BV Chemnitz 99 . In October 2014, after Felix Schreier's dismissal, he was promoted to head coach of the Chemnitz ProA team. He was removed from office in March 2015 after the team slipped to a relegation zone.

For the 2015/16 season, Buchmann moved to the Crailsheim Merlins , where he became assistant coach of the Bundesliga team, youth coach and head coach of the second men's team, with whom he was relegated from the first to the second regional league at the end of the 2015/16 season, in the 2016 season / 17 but led directly to the ascent. At the beginning of December 2018, the Crailsheim Merlins announced the separation from Buchmann. At the beginning of 2019, he worked as a coach at the state division club SV Babelsberg 03, in the summer break of 2019 he returned as a coach to RSV Eintracht, which had just been promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB. At the same time he continued to train in Potsdam. At the beginning of November 2019 he was given leave of absence from the RSV, in January 2020, despite leading the league in the league, his work in Potsdam ended because, according to the team management, there were "different philosophies for achieving the goals set" between Buchmann and the club.
