Kai Gersch (born February 13, 1971 in Bergen on Rügen ) is a German politician of the AfD . As a former member of the FDP, he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives from October 2006 to 2011 .

Life

After graduating from secondary school in 1987, Gersch completed training as a maintenance mechanic, which he completed in 1989. He then worked briefly in the profession he had learned. From 1990 to 1991 he did basic military service in the Bundeswehr . From 1992 to 1994 he worked as an area sales manager. He has been an employee since 1995.

politics

Before 2006, Gersch was parliamentary group chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the district council of the Spandau district . Since 2006 Gersch was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives. There he was spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group for health and care policy as well as for consumer protection.

Gersch always advocated an economically liberal course, advocated a tougher course in integration policy and feared a left-wing course within his party, which he always rejected. The right-wing national weekly paper Junge Freiheit , to which he gave an interview, stated: “Gersch had pushed through a program in the party that internally in the FDP was referred to as 'Sarrazin paper'. Gersch had repeatedly attracted attention through demands such as the one for an 'action plan against anti-German hostility'. ”In 2010 he publicly criticized the FDP leadership for failing to implement their election promises.

After the election to the Berlin House of Representatives in 2011 , he and his parliamentary group resigned because the FDP failed to pass the five percent hurdle and missed re-entry into the House of Representatives.

In autumn 2011 he resigned from all political offices for personal reasons. A year later he left the FDP out of dissatisfaction with the state of the party. Gersch has been a member of the AfD since February 2014, and in April of the same year he took over the chairmanship of the AfD district association Havelland.
