Kai Reus (born March 11, 1985 in Winkel ) is a former Dutch cyclist .

Career

Reus turned pro at Rabobank in 2006 after having been on the youth team for two years . His greatest successes so far have been winning the junior road race at the UCI road world championships in 2003 and winning the 2003 junior cycling world cup . In 2005, Reus won his first professional race win at the Pino Cerami GP .

On July 13, 2007, Reus fell during a training trip near Grenoble and suffered severe head injuries , a broken collarbone and rib injuries and was operated on in the local hospital. He was in a coma for 12 days . He made his comeback in September 2008 on the Tour of Missouri .

In the 2010 season, Reus contracted mononucleosis and took a break until the 2011 season. He originally announced that he was going to end his career. He made his comeback for the De Rijke cycling team , for which he won a stage of the Mi-Août en Bretagne . In 2012 he switched to the UnitedHealthcare Professional Cycling Team and won a stage of the Tour of Portugal .

After the 2016 season, he ended his career.
