Kai Steffen (born June 19, 1961 in Hamburg ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

In his youth, Steffen played for Hamburger SV before moving to the USA in 1979 and playing for California Surf in NASL , the American professional league . In 1982 he returned to Germany and initially played in the HSV amateur team. In the 1983/84 season, Steffen and Holger Stein from the amateur eleven were appointed to the professional team because HSV was in dire need of personnel. He was initially awarded the status of a contract amateur for this season . Steffen was therefore one of the professional as well as the amateurs of Hamburg. In 1984 he became a full professional and stayed with HSV until 1986. But he did not make the breakthrough and went back to the USA, to Los Angeles Lazers . Kai Steffen made a total of seven Bundesliga appearances .
