Kaiavere (German Kayafer ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Tabivere ( Tabivere vald ) in the Estonian district of Jõgevamaa .

Location and description

Kaiavere has 54 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2009). The village is located 26 km northwest of the second largest Estonian city of Tartu ( Dorpat ).

The 2.5 km² Kaiavere järv ( Kayferscher See ) belongs to Kaiavere . The river Amme ( Amme jõgi ) flows through the lake . It connects Lake Kaiavere with Lake Elistvere (1.75; km²).

history

The village was first mentioned in 1473 under the name Kayver . The Kayfer farm is documented for 1512 . He was part of the Tartu nunnery for a time. The historical name Nonnenhoff also comes from this time .

In 1627 the manor of Kaiavere was privately owned. The last owner of the estate before the expropriation as part of the Estonian land reform of 1919 was the noble Baltic German family von Löwenstern .

The most famous son of the place is August Philipp Klara (1790-1850), one of the first visual artists of Estonian origin.
