Kaijû daifunsen: Daigorou tai Goriasu ( Japanese 怪 獣 大 奮 戦 ダ イ ゴ ロ ウ 対 ゴ リ ア ス ) is a Japanese monster film from 1972 . As a monster film, it belongs to the genre of Kaijū .

action

The monster Daigoro lives on the Japanese island of Goroshima Island off the Japanese coast. Six years earlier, Daigoro's mother had come to life in a nuclear accident. In her search for her lost son Daigoro, she left a trail of destruction. Shortly before she could take him again, she was killed by the Japanese army. Daigoro was housed on Goroshima Island; the Japanese Saito became his foster father.

In the meantime, Daigoro has developed into a tourist attraction. However, the diet of the growing Daigoro is becoming more and more of a problem, so that, to Saito's displeasure, the government is even adding appetite suppressants to his diet. This calls on an inventor who wants to win 2 million yen on a TV game show to finance Daigoro's nutrition.

One day Goriasu, an alien monster with a horn on its nose, lands on the island with an asteroid. In a first fight, Goriasu incapacitates Daigoro with a bolt of lightning from his nose horn. Large portions of food are brought in for Daigoro. A doctor tries in vain to reanimate the unconscious Daigoro; he only wakes up when the bon vivant Kumo, who was involved in Daigoro's rescue, pours a portion of food into his mouth. Daigoro strengthens itself with the supplies that have been brought in.

While various possibilities are being discussed how best to proceed against Goriasu, attempts are in vain to teach the peaceful Daigoro fighting techniques. In this context, Daigoro develops the ability to exhale a fire breath. Daigoro is trained to deal with this new skill.

In the meantime, the inventor has developed a device that is supposed to render Goriasus nasal horn harmless. Kumo and the inventor travel to Emakajima Island, where Goriasu is now, to place the device on Goriasu's nasal horn. Since the device incorrectly signals that Goriasu's nasal horn is inactive, Daigoro begins the fight against the alien monster. Again he is hit by the beam, but this time he wakes up more quickly from his impotence. In the meantime I managed to throw a sheet on the nasal horn. Daigoro takes up the fight again and defeats Goriasu with a beam of fire.

The weakened Goriasu is tied to a rocket and shot into space. As a reward, a toilet with running water will be installed on the island for Daigoro.

background

Originally, the film was to be part of the Godzilla franchise as a co-production by Tsuburaya Productions and the Tōhō Studios, the owners of the rights to the film character Godzilla . However, the Tōhō studios withdrew their participation in the film early on, so that Godzilla had to be replaced by the monster Goriasu.
