Kailahun is a city in eastern Sierra Leone near the border with Guinea and Liberia . It is the capital of the Kailahun District and is located in the Chiefdom Luawa in the Eastern Province . The city is 293 kilometers northeast of Freetown .
population
The population consists of the Kissi and immigrant Mende . The population censuses identified 5419 in 1963, 7184 in 1974 and 9054 in 1985. The last census in 2004 counted 13,108 inhabitants.
economy
Kailahun is a regional center and therefore a market and trading center for cattle, cocoa and coffee.
