Kailahun is a district of Sierra Leone with 527,248 inhabitants (as of 2020). It is located in the Eastern province in the east of the country, on the border with Liberia and Guinea . Its capital is Kailahun , other cities are Segbwema , Koindu , Pendembu and Bunumbu . The district is divided into 14 chiefdoms (chiefdoms).

Kailahun covers an area of ​​3,859 km². The highest point in the district is the Jojina at 851 meters above sea level.

The inhabitants of the Kailahun district are mainly of the Kissi and Mende ethnic groups and the majority are Muslim. The economy in Kailahun consists of small-scale mining and the cultivation of cocoa, coffee and rice.

The district had 56 health facilities in 2006, including a state hospital and a state clinic. In 2005 1.4% of the residents were HIV positive. In 2004/2005 there were 288 primary and 13 secondary schools. The literacy rate in 2004 was 32% (43% of men and 22% of women) and thus below the national average. 48.7% of the children attended school.
