Pendembu is a town in the district of Kailahun in the province of Eastern in West Africa Sierra Leone . The place has about 8,780 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Pendembu has traditionally been an important trading center.
The place is about 55 kilometers from Kenema and 350 kilometers east of the capital Freetown . In 2017, the construction of a 28-kilometer road to the district capital Kailahun began.
The majority of the inhabitants belong to the Mende . The city's best- known son is Ahmad Tejan Kabbah , the former president of Sierra Leone .
