Moyamba is a district of Sierra Leone with around 319,000 inhabitants (as of 2020). It belongs to the province of Southern and is located in the south-west of the country on the Atlantic coast. Its capital is Moyamba , other larger towns are Kpetewoma, Shenge , Largo and Rotifunk . The district is divided into 14 chiefdoms (chiefdoms).

Moyamba covers an area of ​​6,892 km². Plantain Island also belongs to the district .

The inhabitants of the Moyamba district mainly belong to the ethnic groups of the Mende , Bullom-Sherbro , Temne and Loko and are mostly Muslim. The economy consists of rutile and bauxite mining , fishing, rice cultivation and palm oil plantations. Sea salt is traditionally extracted in the chiefdoms on the coast. There is also trade via the sea with the state capital Freetown and with neighboring Guinea .

In 2006 the district had 56 health facilities, including two state hospitals, five mission clinics, an NGO and a private clinic. In 2004/2005 there were 426 primary and 17 secondary schools. The literacy rate in 2004 was 33% (45% of men and 24% of women) and thus below the national average. 46.6% of the children attended school.
