Port Loko is a district of Sierra Leone with around 531,000 inhabitants (as of 2020). It belongs to the North West Province and is located in the northwest of the country, on the Atlantic coast . Its capital is Port Loko , other cities are Lunsar , Lungi , Tintanfore and the port city of Pepel . The district is divided into 11 chiefdoms (chiefdoms).

Port Loko covers an area of ​​5719 square kilometers. The district also includes the islands of Pepel, Kagbeli , Puluntunt , Makonkoma and Bunce Island . The highest point is Maluntu (Okra Hill) with 177 meters.

The most important ethnic groups in the Port Loko district are the Temne and Susu , the predominant religion is Islam. The economy in Port Loko is based on small-scale mining and the cultivation of staple foods (rice, cassava , sweet potatoes).
