Kailani Craine (born August 13, 1998 in Newcastle , New South Wales ) is an Australian figure skater .
Life
Craine is the daughter of Katrina and Stephen Craine. She grew up in her native Newcastle and graduated from St. Francis Xavier's College in Hamilton in 2016. The Australian began figure skating at the age of eight, and from 2012 she took part in international junior competitions. Tiffany Chin , a former American figure skater, has been her trainer since 2010 .
She first appeared in a Junior World Championship in 2014, but did not get past 35th place. In December she won her first national championship title and she became Australian champion in women's singles. After becoming the Australian junior champion in 2012 and 2013, she was also able to win the championship in the senior class from 2013 to 2017. In 2017 she won the Nebelhorn Trophy , which is part of the "Challenger Series".
In her first appearance at the four continents championship, Craine came in twelfth, although this could not top this result in the following years. At the 2017 World Figure Skating Championships , she was 19th in the short program to take part in the freestyle, where she was only 24th overall. A year earlier, in 2016 , she had failed on the hurdle as the 27th after the short program. At the Winter Asian Games 2017 , Craine finished fifth in the final ranking.
In 2018 she was the only Australian figure skater to take part in the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . As 16th after the short program she qualified for the freestyle, in which she was also 16th. Overall she reached 17th place.
