Old Kaiserlift (1952–1996)

The Kaiserlift Kufstein is a chair lift that leads from the valley station in the Kufstein district of Sparchen at 500 meters above sea level via the middle station at the Duxer Alm (896 m) to the mountain station on the Brentenjoch (1256 m). The lift is located on the Stadtberg von Kufstein. As a mountain railway, the Kaiserlift facilitates the ascent to the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range .

The lift is operated by Stadtwerke Kufstein , a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kufstein municipality. These are supported by the Ellmau-Going mountain railways, which also provide the staff for daily operations.

development

The original Kaiserlift was located in Pienzenauerstraße, at today's "Motorikpark", about 2 kilometers southeast of today's lift and began operating in 1952. The mountain station was located on the 1128  m high Stadtberg directly next to the Aschenbrenner mountain inn, which was also newly built at the time. After the closure of the Steinberg ski area and increasing complaints from neighbors, the lift operation was stopped in 1994. It was dismantled two years later. What remains are the valley station, which has been extensively renovated, and the mountain station.

Today's Kaiserlift (formerly the Wilder Kaiser chairlift ) was built in 1970 and started operating the following year. At that time it was considered a better connection to the Steinberg ski area, as the valley station of another 1-seater chairlift, the Brentenjochlift (1963–1998), was located exactly below the mountain station next to the Brentenjochhütte . The station buildings of this old lift were demolished in 2019.

For technical reasons, the old Kaiserlift (last only in summer operation as a hiking lift) was stopped in 2012. Comprehensive renovation and renovation of the lift began in 2014. Drives and supports were refurbished, the ropes, pulley sets and armchairs completely renewed. The refurbished lift went into operation as planned on May 1st, 2015. Since then, the facility has been called the “Kaiserlift” and is in operation again every year from May 1st to October 31st. The mountain station is located at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range on a high plateau. In addition to the restaurants and alpine pastures (Berghaus Aschenbrenner, Weinbergerhaus , Kaindlhütte ), an excursion destination with places of strength, resting and viewing points was created here.
