Kalachi ( Kazakh Калачи , Russian Калачи ) is a village in the district esil in Kazakhstan .

Geographical location

The settlement is located in the Aqmola area and borders the city of Krasnogor .

Kalachi has almost 600 inhabitants (2015).

history

The place was founded not far from a uranium deposit . Kalachi gained national fame due to the increased occurrence of sleep syndrome since 2013, the cause of which was initially unknown. Researchers suspect the cause is a closed uranium mine, from which toxic gases (including carbon monoxide and radon ) are emitted. The settlement is to be completely evacuated and the residents relocated.
