Calendar of Teos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The calendar of Teos is a Greek calendar from the Ionian calendar group that was in use in the city of Teos in Asia Minor .

The dates of the calendar from Teos are largely lost; only two names of the months are known. The month Leukatheon ( Λευκαθεών ) is multiply by inscriptions testifies the Posideion ( Ποσιδηίων ) is by a quote of teischen poet Anacreon in Eustathius of Thessalonica handed. The Posideion as an all-ionic month name can be compared with the Posideion of other Ionic calendars, in the Julian calendar it roughly corresponds to December . The location of the Leukatheon is not so clear; the comparison with other calendars in which the month was used only allows its location in summer. From two inscriptions from the 4th and 2nd centuries BC It is evident that the Teische year began with him.
