Location of Kalkofen in Rhineland-Palatinate

Kalkofen is a district of Dörnberg in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located below the village of Dörnberg, directly on the Lahn and the federal road 417 at the river kilometer 105.8 km.

Kalkofen is known from the daily, official water level reports of the Kalkofen level (reference level) in the corresponding radio announcements. A little further up the Lahn is the Kalkofen lock (below the Eichenauer Berg) with the hydroelectric power plant built in 1955 by the Mainkraftwerke (MKW). Even at normal water level, 165,000 cubic meters of water per hour flow down the river.
