Callistus Caravario SDS

Kallistus Caravario SDB , Italian Callisto , (born June 18, 1903 in Cuorgnè near Turin , † February 25, 1930 in Liuzhou , China ) was the Italian Salesian of Don Bosco and a missionary in China.

In 1918 he joined the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco. In 1921 he met the missionary and Salesian Bishop Aloisius Versiglia and decided to become a missionary in China. In 1923 he went to China and was ordained a priest there in 1924 by Versiglia. On a pastoral trip to Liuzhou, he and Versiglia were murdered by pirates.

Pope Paul VI declared Versiglia and Caravario martyrs in 1976. In 1983 they were beatified by Pope John Paul II and canonized on October 1, 2000 .
