The municipality of Caquiaviri is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of Caquiaviri is one of eight municipalities in the province of Pacajes and is located in the northwestern part of the province. It borders the province of Ingavi and the Municipio Nazacara de Pacajes to the north and west , the Municipio Charaña to the southwest , the Municipio Calacoto to the south, the Municipio Coro Coro to the southeast , and the Municipio Comanche to the east .
The municipality comprises 123 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Caquiaviri with 497 inhabitants in the northeastern part of the municipality, the largest village is Achiri with 556 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )
geography
The municipality of Caquiaviri is located at an average altitude of 3900 m south of Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east.
The mean annual temperature of the region is 8 ° C, the annual precipitation is 500 mm (see climate diagram Nazacara). The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 5 ° C in July and 10 ° C in December. The monthly precipitation is between below 10 mm from May to August and 100 to 125 mm in January and February.
