The Municipio Calacoto is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of Calacoto is one of eight municipalities in the Pacajes province and is located in the central part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the Charaña Municipality , in the southeast on the Oruro Department , the east by the municipality Callapa , on the northeast by the municipality of Coro Coro , and the north by the municipality Caquiaviri .
The municipality comprises 268 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Calacoto with 337 inhabitants in the northeastern part of the district, the largest village is Ulloma with 512 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )
geography
The municipality of Calacoto is located at an average altitude of 3900 m south of Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The region has a distinctive time-of-day climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.
The annual average temperature of the region is around 8 ° C (see Callapa climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate only slightly between 5 ° C in June and a good 10 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is a low 400 mm, the monthly values are between under 10 mm from May to August and 100 mm in January.
