The Municipio Callapa (also: Santiago de Callapa ) is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality Callapa is one of eight municipalities in the province of Pacajes and is located in the eastern part of the province. It is bordered by the Municipio Calacoto to the west, the Oruro Department to the south, the Gualberto Villarroel Province to the southeast, the Aroma Province to the east , and the Coro Coro Municipality to the north .
The municipality comprises 85 localities ( localidades ). The central place of the municipality is Callapa with 151 inhabitants in the southern part of the district, the largest place in the municipality is Huayllapanta with 347 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )
geography
The municipality of Callapa is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at an average altitude of 3850 m , bounded in the east by the ridge of the Serranía de Huayllamarca and to the north by the Río Desaguadero . The region has a distinct daytime climate, with temperatures fluctuating more during the day than during the year.
The mean average temperature of the municipality is just under 9 ° C (see Callapa climate diagram), the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 5 ° C in July and a good 10 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is about 400 mm, the monthly precipitation is between 0 and 10 mm in the months May to August and 100 mm in January.
