Callapa (also Santiago de Callapa ) is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Callapa is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Callapa in the province of Pacajes . The village is located at an altitude of 3797  m at km 192 of the Río Desaguadero on its northern left bank, where the Ruta 4 road crosses the river.

Callapa lies on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean fluctuation of day and night temperatures is more pronounced than that of the seasonal fluctuations.
