Calacoto is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Calacoto is a central place in the municipality of Calacoto in the province of Pacajes . The village is located at an altitude of 3822  m on the left northern bank of the Río Desaguadero , about 75 kilometers as the crow flies southeast of Lake Titicaca .

Calacoto is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The region's climate is typical of the time of day , in which the mean daily temperature fluctuations are greater than the seasonal temperature fluctuations.

The mean annual temperature of the region is 8 to 9 ° C (see Callapa climate diagram), the monthly mean temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 5 ° C in June / July and a good 10 ° C from November to March. From La Paz the national road Ruta 2 leads to El Alto , from there the Ruta 19 in a south-westerly direction via Viacha to Caquiaviri and on to Charaña on the Chilean border. From Caquiaviri an unpaved road leads over thirty kilometers in a south-easterly direction to Coro Coro and from there another country road leads 26 kilometers to the south-west to Calacoto .

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Calacoto 93.1 percent of the population speak Aymara .
