Kalvarienbergkapelle (Gmünd in Carinthia)
The Kalvarienbergkapelle of Gmünd in Carinthia stands together with the Lodron crypt on a hill above the Malta .
Calvary Chapel
The chapel was donated by the Raitenauers in 1629 and built by Anton Durregger in the first half of the 17th century. The gable front consists of two turrets and a Renaissance portal with a straight lintel. The side walls are undivided except for the cornice. Inside, the building is divided into a rectangular hall and a recessed square choir with groined vaults. The high altar, covered with roll and band work , with two-storey column architecture and blown segment gable was built around 1700. The main picture shows the crucifixion, the top picture Christ on the Mount of Olives. Both paintings are painted in the tradition of Dutch Mannerism . A choir grille with Lodron's coat of arms from the end of the 17th century separates the chancel from the nave.
Crypt
The crypt of the Counts Lodron is located behind the chapel. The building, erected in 1840, has a late Classicist aedicula facade . The inside of the crypt built into the slope has a rectangular, barrel-vaulted room with three by four grave niches on the side walls. Thirteen members of the Lodron family are buried here.
Way of the Cross
Eight stations of the cross lead from the Altweiberkapelle in Gmünd to the Kalvarienbergkapelle. The pictures were repainted by Peter Brandstätter in 1966.
