The Kalvarienbergkirche Gramastetten stands on the Galgenbühel, visible from afar, southeast of the town in the market town of Gramastetten in the Urfahr-Umgebung district in Upper Austria . The Calvary Church , consecrated on the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross , belongs to the parish church of Gramastetten in the dean's office of Gallneukirchen in the diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building ( list entry ). The corresponding way of the cross stands between the market and the mountain church.

history

The mountain church and the Way of the Cross were built between 1831 and 1834 with the master builder Johann Ramerstorfer. Restorations were in 1958 and 1979. The church is looked after by the Gramastettner Kameradschaftsbund. It is a district warrior memorial for the Sudeten Germans and Bohemian Forests in the Urfahr area. Patronage is Good Friday, the day of the Exaltation of the Cross.

architecture

The simple church building of the Vormärz is largely based on the Baroque in the sense of a counter-movement against Josephinism . The hall building with an east apse under a gable roof with a turret has an almost square extension on the choir head. The west facade shows a wide central bar with the small roof turret with an onion helmet above it, a portal porch was added a little later. The church has arched windows on the side.

The three-bay hall under domed square vaults has yoke separations by means of pillars with deeply drawn belts. The west gallery projects convexly.

Furnishing

The high altar was created by the sculptor Franz Xaver Schneider in 1833/1834 ; a life-size Nazarene crucifixion group stands above a high, pilaster-structured substructure. In rectangular niches there are monumental Nazarene stations of the cross, Descent from the Cross and Entombment by Franz Xaver Schneider (1833/1834). Johann Meindl (1853) painted a votive picture.

The crucifixion group is also the twelfth station of the Gramastetten Way of the Cross, the 13th and 14th stations are in the church on the side walls. The Holy Sepulcher Chapel is located behind the church.

The war memorial and the pictures inside the church come from the Gramastetten merchant and artist Hugo Gielge.
