Kambuzia Partovi ( Persian کامبوزیا پرتوی; *  1955 ) is an Iranian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Partovi was born in 1955 near Rostam Abad on the Caspian Sea . After studying theater studies, he mainly wrote scripts for television series. He made his feature film debut as a director in 1988 with Golnar ( Persian گلنار). His film Café Transit was selected as an Iranian nominee for an Oscar nomination in the category of best foreign language film in 2007.

In addition, Partovi is best known for his collaboration with Jafar Panahi . He wrote the screenplay for Panahi's film The Circle , which was awarded the Golden Lion in Venice . In 2013, their joint film Pardé celebrated its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival . Due to Panahi's travel ban imposed by the Iranian authorities, Partovi had to accept the award for the best screenplay from the international jury on his own. The Iranian Ministry of Culture described the film as "illegal" and protested against showing the film at the Berlinale. Since films in Iran can only be shot and distributed with permission, this is, according to the Deputy Minister of Education, Jawad Shamaghdari, “a criminal offense”.
