The Kernhof Camel Theater is an adventure center in Kernhof, a town in the municipality of St. Aegyd am Neuwalde in Lower Austria , around 50 km south of the state capital St. Pölten .

In the theater camels are mainly shown (actually two-humped Bactrian camels - they also keep the cold in winter in the foothills of), but also animals other than cast from simple plays. The camel theater is mainly intended for children, has space for around 250 spectators and is only performed in the summer months.

At the highest point of the area is the red painted Sepp Forcher lookout tower. It was named after the television presenter who had visited the camel theater on his program Klingendes Österreich .

The theater was founded by the travel agency owner Herbert Eder. The unusual idea soon found widespread media coverage.

In 2005 the company received the Lower Austrian Tourism Prize.

"White Zoo"

The theater with adjoining zoo and alpine ambience has developed into a crowd puller. The animals that are rare in Central European zoos include the albino Benett kangaroos and Chinese leopards . Even White Tiger , the only ones in Austria, and snow leopards , which are integrated in an international Arterhaltungsprogramm be maintained in the zoo. In 2012, young snow leopards were born. They received the names Natascha and Morgi from the godparents Natalia Ushakova and Thomas Morgenstern .

In 2010 a white tigress was loaned from the German Safaripark Stukenbrock . In September 2011 she gave birth to three white young animals (two males and one female). This led to a legal battle between the safari park and the camel theater operator over ownership of the tigers. An agreement was reached in June 2012.

After tiger quadruplets in 2013, healthy quintuplets were born in 2014 as a pan-European sensation.

For the Winter Olympics in South Korea , the two white tigers Toto and Mia from the four -of-a-kind litter from 2017 were given to Bukyeon Zoo .
