Sounding Austria was an existing 1986-2020 folk music and traditional broadcast of the ORF , which was last aired four times a year. The show was moderated by Sepp Forcher .

The program portrayed the customs and traditions of different regions of Austria, South Tyrol and regions close to the border, especially in neighboring Bavaria. Regional folk music groups played mostly between the reports, stories, performances by folk dance groups and interviews.

Since the folk music groups were always shown against a backdrop of natural landscapes, the program was sometimes accused of "postcard romance". The traditional folk music would thereby in the near Kitsch moved. Forcher himself said that you see too much ugly on television anyway, he wanted to show the beautiful sides.

The title music of the show was the Bavarian polka print nua zua from the Salzkammergut .

With the 200th broadcast, Sepp Forcher said goodbye to his audience at the age of 90 in March 2020.

Six episodes were produced and broadcast in 1986, and seven a year from 1987 to 2003. From 2004, two to four episodes were produced and broadcast each year.

The broadcast was originally produced by the ORF regional studio in Salzburg . Over time, a long-term cooperation between ORF Salzburg and ORF Styria developed.

From 2013 to 2020 the program was produced exclusively by the ORF regional studio Styria in Graz.

In October 2019, after recording the 200th episode of Klingendes Österreich , Sepp Forcher announced that he would end his career as a TV presenter at the age of 90 and retire.
