Adult fish live in pairs or in small groups, solitary animals join Meyer's butterfly fish ( Chaetodon meyeri ), which has a similar body drawing. The orange stripe butterflyfish is distinctive because of its orange stripes on the sides.

The animals become 18 centimeters long. As a nutrition specialist, it feeds on coral polyps and is therefore not suitable for keeping in saltwater aquariums. He barely survives more than a couple of weeks.
