Natalia Ushakova ( Russian: Наталья Ушакова Natalja Uschakowa , born on February 9, 1969 in Tashkent , Soviet Union ) is a Russian - Austrian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

After training as a radio electronics engineer, Natalia Ushakova completed her vocal studies from 1991 at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in Saint Petersburg , together with her friend Anna Netrebko , with whom she also lived.

In 1996 she received a scholarship for the Graz Opera Studio. In 1997 she married the Austrian tenor Reiner Schendl, who in the meantime no longer works as a singer. In 1998 she continued her vocal studies with Josef Loibl's master class at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . From 1999 she attended the Accademia di perfezionamento of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan . In the same year she made her debut at La Scala as Maria in Mazeppa by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky , under the direction of Mstislav Rostropovich .

After winning two of the most important Italian singing competitions in 2000, the Concorso Internazionale Riccardo Zandonai in Rovereto and the Concorso delle voci verdiane in Busseto , Verdi's birthplace , she made her debut in the same year as Violetta Valéry in Verdi's La traviata at the Mariinski Theater in Saint Petersburg. In the same year she took part in the BBC television film The private life of Giuseppe Verdi , in which she played Giuseppina Strepponi (Verdi's second wife) and Violetta Valéry. During this time she also participated in tours of the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg, which took her to the Metropolitan Opera in New York , the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires , the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden .

In 2001 she received Austrian citizenship. She made her USA debut in 2001 as Liu in Giacomo Puccini's Turandot at the Washington National Opera , where in 2002 she again played Lisa in Queen of Spades alongside Plácido Domingo as Hermann. She made her debut at the Hamburg State Opera in 2003 in the role of Lisa in Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades . Her debut in June 2004 at the Teatro Real in Madrid with Placido Domingo had great success with the press and audiences . In 2005 the role of Tatiana followed in a new production by Eugene Onegin . In April 2006 Natalia Ushakova performed Donna Anna in Daniele Abbado's new production of Don Giovanni in Verona. That year she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York with great success .

In 2007 she made her debut as Violetta (in La Traviata ) at the Vienna State Opera and as Desdemona in Otello at the State Opera Stuttgart . In 2008 debuts followed in Japan, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and gala concerts with, among others, José Carreras . In 2011 she gave Verdi's Violetta in a new production directed by Renato Zanella in the historic Syros Opera House in Greece, which was subsequently named the best production of 2011. She then sang Tosca under the direction of Plácido Domingo in Washington, DC and received great applause from the audience and the press at the world premiere of Lera Auerbach's opera Gogol in the Theater an der Wien . The year 2012 began with a subject expansion under the leadership of Kammersängerin Prof. Hilde Zadek . Natalia Ushakova then recorded her first bel canto CD with the pan-European Philharmonic under the direction of Guido Mancusi in Warsaw and made her debut as Celeste in Nick Prokop's mono-opera Zeitperlen , accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic . In 2013 Natalia Ushakova made her debut as Queen of the Night at the Prague State Opera and the Vienna Volksoper and as Francesca da Rimini in Lyon (France) under the direction of Vladimir Fedosejew . In March of this year she also presented her second solo album on Universal Music Austria.

She often spends her free time at Semmering , where she owns a house.

Others

On February 21, 2011 she took part in the celebrity millionaire show with Rudolf Roubinek , Dirk Stermann and Mirjam Weichselbraun , where a donation of 105,000 euros was won for Licht ins Dunkel .

From March 2020 she will take part in the 13th season of the ORF show Dancing Stars as a dancer together with her dance partner, professional dancer Stefan Herzog.
