Otto Schaude (born June 15, 1944 in Wippingen in the Alb-Donau district ; † September 27, 2016 in Eningen unter Achalm ) was a German pedagogue and an important representative of Pietism within the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . From 2010 to 2016 he was Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East (ELKUSFO).

Life

Otto Schaude was the son of a farmer. He attended the Kepler Gymnasium in Ulm from 1954 to 1963 and studied at the Reutlingen University of Education from 1963 to 1965 . He passed the first teaching examination for elementary and secondary schools in 1965, the second teaching examination in 1968. He then became a teacher at the elementary and secondary school in the Orschel-Hagen district of Reutlingen . In 1968 he qualified as a training teacher for elementary and secondary schools, and in 1970 as a multiplier for mathematics at primary and secondary schools. From 1970 to 1975 he was head of the elementary school in Reutlingen- Altenburg . From 1975 to 1991 he headed the Free Evangelical School in Reutlingen, which he co-founded in 1973, as the youngest rector in Baden-Württemberg at the time. Schaude was one of the initiators of the Working Group of Evangelical Confession Schools (AEBS) and was involved in the founding of around 30 Christian denomination schools.

From 1983 to 2008 he was a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg , where he was chairman of the committee for youth and education and then in the theological committee, in the council of elders and representative of the discussion group “ Living Congregation ”. He was chairman of the Evangelical School Works for Württemberg and from 1991 to 2008 chaired the Old Pietists Association of Wuerttemberg, which with 35 preachers and around 500 volunteers is the largest community association of old pietists within the church, in which he was previously a volunteer.

Schaude was retired in 2008. At the request of the Liebenzell Mission to support the Protestant Christians in Siberia, he traveled there several times in 2009 and trained staff. At the request of the management of ELKUSFO he declared himself ready for the office of bishop. On October 23, 2010 he was elected unanimously, with one abstention, by the 23 synodals of the 19th Synod of ELKUSFO, as honorary bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East (ELKUSFO) based in Omsk / Siberia, the largest Lutheran diocese of the world, stretching over seven time zones from the Urals to the Pacific.

Schaude's inauguration took place on October 24, 2010 in the Christ Church Church and Culture Center in Omsk, the first church to be built in Russia since the October Revolution , in the presence of the Russian Orthodox Metropolitan of Omsk.

ELKUSFO - a member church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia ( ELKRAS ) - is the territorially largest Lutheran church in the world and also the territorially largest church in the territory of the former Soviet Union . She looks after 20 pastors. The bishop of ELKUSFO belongs by virtue of his office to the Bishops' Council of ELCRAS. Schaude's predecessor, August Kruse , has been the Archbishop of ELKRAS since 2009.

In September 2016 he died of cancer. His grave is at his place of residence in Reutlingen-Reicheneck . He left his wife Brigitte and four children as well as 10 grandchildren.
