Stone sun

Kamenná slunce ("Stone Sun") is a geological national natural monument in the south of the Central Bohemian Uplands between Hnojnice and Děčany in the Czech Republic . A rock wall made of chalk sediments with structures reminiscent of a sun is under protection . The reserve was established in 1953 on 0.8 hectares.

The suns were probably formed after a major volcanic explosion . Glowing ejected masses then got under the sliding chalk sediments. The surrounding material was heated and baked together. During the cooling process, star-shaped stress cracks developed around smaller bodies that had penetrated the chalk sediments.
